Trip Protection for Your Oahu Dolphin Tour: Is It Worth It?
Every Dolphins and You booking includes free cancellation up to 48 hours before your scheduled departure. For most guests, that window is enough. But for guests who want complete flexibility right up until the morning of the tour, trip protection offers something the standard policy does not: the ability to cancel or reschedule for any reason, at any time, up to one hour before the tour begins.
Here is exactly how it works.
What trip protection covers
Trip protection is an optional add-on available at the time of booking. It costs 10% of the total tour price and covers the following:
- Cancellation for any reason up to 1 hour before the scheduled departure time
- Rescheduling for any reason up to 1 hour before the scheduled departure time
- Full refund of your ticket price, less the cost of trip protection itself
There are no restrictions on the reason for cancellation. Weather concerns, illness, a change in travel plans, an unexpected scheduling conflict, or simply a change of mind all qualify. You do not need to provide documentation or an explanation.

How trip protection differs from standard cancellation
The standard Dolphins and You cancellation policy allows free cancellation or rescheduling up to 48 hours before departure. Requests made within 48 hours of the tour are not eligible for a refund under the standard policy.
Trip protection extends that window significantly:

The practical difference is what happens in the final 48 hours before your tour. Without trip protection, a decision made the night before or the morning of the tour is not refundable. With trip protection, you have until one hour before departure to change your plans.
When trip protection makes sense
You are booking well in advance
The further out you book, the more can change between your booking date and your tour date. Trip protection gives you the flexibility to adjust if your travel plans shift in the weeks or months before your trip.
You are traveling during winter months
Oahu’s west coast is one of the sunniest parts of the island, and tours operate in light rain and overcast conditions. However, winter months bring more variable weather across the island. Guests who are particularly concerned about weather and want the option to make a same-day decision will find trip protection useful.
Someone in your group has unpredictable health or scheduling
If you are traveling with young children, elderly family members, or anyone whose health or availability may be uncertain, trip protection gives you the ability to make a last-minute call without losing your booking cost.
You have a busy or flexible itinerary
Some guests book a dolphin tour alongside multiple other activities and know their schedule may need to shift. Trip protection removes the financial risk of needing to move things around at the last minute.
You are booking within 48 hours of the tour
When you book within 48 hours of your scheduled departure, the standard cancellation policy no longer applies. Any booking made inside that window is final under the standard policy. Trip protection changes that entirely: even if you book the night before or the morning of the tour, adding trip protection at checkout gives you the ability to cancel or reschedule up to 1 hour before departure. For last-minute bookers who want to keep their options open, trip protection is the only way to do that.
How to add trip protection to your booking
Trip protection is available as an optional add-on during the booking process. Look for the trip protection checkbox when completing your reservation on the booking page.
Once added, trip protection applies to all tickets in your booking. The cost is 10% of the total ticket price for your group.
